Videogames

11:17 p.m.

Today has been productive in that I was able to complete my framed family picture bonanza and do a ton of yard work with smelly mulch. It was unproductive in that I'm already on the verge of giving up on the Zelda game that I mentioned I was playing. I've fought this same boss monster like five times now and every time he kicks my ass. I've looked up how to kill him in multiple FAQs so it isn't lack of knowledge that's doing me in, it's just a horrible level of control.

And it got me to thinking about my relationship with video games in general. I'm very bad at them, they inevitably annoy the shit out of me, so why the fuck do I keep playing them? I mean, I don't usually. I almost always give up at some point, but why do I keep coming back? I think I'm just looking for something that I never seem to be able to find.

Really, I need to just stick to puzzle games. For me, the fun of playing Zelda is to figure out the dungeons. Every room is a new game that you have to figure out to progress, and I like that. The only time I cheat and pull out an FAQ or a guide is when I get to the boss battles, because, while I could potentially figure out how to kill them on my own, I find that I die so often in doing so that it ceases to be worth my time.

I miss adventure games. You know, the ones where you had a series of commands like "Talk To", "Pick Up", "Push", "Pull", etc.? Like Maniac Mansion on the NES. I'm sure there's tons of them out there, but I never keep up with the news. If anyone knows of some newer games like that that are particularly good, feel free to clue me in.

While you're at it, let me know when that movie Equilibrium comes out on DVD. I wasn't ever able to catch it in theatres and I keep thinking that it's about time for it to be released to the general public on disc. I'm really in the mood to watch some crazy Kung-Fu ass-kicking.

So it's a good thing I'm going to check out The Matrix: Reloaded tomorrow night as I'll be getting my Kung-Fu fix. It would've been nice to catch a matinee, but with Colt being a hard-working individual amongst a group of lazy unemployed slobs we have to match his schedule out of fairness.

Oh, never mind about Equilibrium by the way. I looked it up in the downtime of thinking about what to write in this very paragraph you're reading. It came out yesterday. Hooray!
